Is there a special primer for painting over wallpaper?

Or will any oil base primer do?

We  used spackle over the seams in the wallpaper and then use regular primer. Our wallpaper was put directly on the drywall so we couldn't really remove it without a lot of extra work. Good luck

no special primer for using over wallpaper, but in the long run it's easier to remove the wallpaper that paint over it. You can find some great wallapaper removers at yoru local rental store that are commercial grade and will take a minimal amount of time and effort to remove the paper.

If you can take the wall paper down , imo, you will have a nicer job ............just steam it......or take a bucket of warm water and cap full of soap and stir then apply with a sponge and let soak a few minutes and scrape off with a sheetrock muding knife 6''.
