Can I just plug a camcorder in my USB and import the footage using Windows Movie maker or do I need to buy a different program?

  1. Oh I've had the same problem. I have a sony handycam and it sucks  because the usb driver like never works. I suggest downloading Sony Vegas pro 8.0 trial. I put the dvd in my computer and it ripped them into my computer into mpeg format which plays on windows media player. To do this you click file>import>dvd camcorder disc.

  2. Depends on your camera.Let me first state that I would ALWAYS recommend using a firewire (ieee 1394) port if your computer has one, check with your manufacturer. If it doesn't follow these steeps.  First make sure that your camera is able to stream footage through USB although many cameras have usb ports they are for transferring pictures or videos recorded to sd cards only.  If your camera supports streaming over USB (check your manual) you will then need to install the driver for your camera (should be on a cd that came with your camera or you can most likely download it from the manufacturer). After that you can import your footage into movie maker. If your camera doesn't support streaming video over USB you will need to buy a add on firewire card like this for a desktop http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...

or like this for a notebook http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...

    Hope this helps

  3. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

  4. a miniDV vcam must be FIREWIRE**-connected to a pc to upload video thru video capture or video editing* application while vcam is on playback. Before cable** purchase, note: Firewire port of vcam is 4pin...check the firewire port of PC whether 4 or 6 pin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire

for starters, free Windows Movie Maker* (XP-wmm2 & Vista-wmm6) provides simple & easy way to learn the ropes < click help for details>. Upgrade to other video editing app      http://video-editing-software-review.top...     accdg. to need & skill level
