Is there a specific kind of Harddrive where you can rip dvd movies to it to be viewed on a television?

I want to copy my library of dvds to a harddrive that i can hook up to my television so i can just watch the dvds from there instead of having to use a dvd player...

Another words i dont want to have to take the dvd out of the case and put it in the dvd player everytime i watch it..

I just want to copy the movies to a harddrive that i can hook up to the tv.
