Is there a stereotype or reputation that mechanical engineers have? What about civil engineers?

  1. Of course.  They have a reputation for being highly intelligent, creative and dynamic individuals who get big, complicated stuff built, much like mr.perfesser.

    Civil engineers build targets.

    hahaha no, I don't think there are really any stereotypes specific to the disciplines. In some schools, one or the others may be more highly regarded, but really they are all the same.

  3. The real answer is that both are creative professions much needed by the world and have a lot of overlap.

    One thought is that Civils build static things. Mechanical build dynamic things. However, mechanicals also do energy transfer related tasks. Civils do stormwater, and low pressure city piping. There is a great deal of project managemant in civil engineering, less so in mechanical.
