Is there a substitute for Marsala Wine in cooking? ?

I am only 19 so I cannot buy the real thing but I am needing to make a marsala sauce so I am wondering if there is ANY way to make a similar flavor using something else, a non-alcoholic wine that I can buy at my age or a juice. I know nothing is going to taste exactly the same but something that will make it at least similar or taste as good. Thanks to anyone that can help!

  1. You could try a grape juice reduction but the answer is "no".

    There is no substitute.

  2. I don't think you need an id to buy the marsala they sell in grocery stores.  It is so diluted.

  3. There really is no substitute. Marsala is a distinct flavored wine used as a liquid in certain recipies, such as Chicken or veal marsala. Typically you could use Maderia wine or sherry if you didn't have Marsala on hand, but it won't be the same.

However, your problem stems from a different source.... age.

Other than using another "wine" substitute, you can use any other form of liquid to cook what ever you are cooking.  Bouillion, apple juice, canned gravy, sherry flavored vinegar??? Your choice.

What I'd do in your case, is ask an adult (relative or neighbor) to buy you a bottle of wine, pour what you need for the recipe, and offer them the rest of the bottle. Everyone wins :)

    Problem solved.

  4. Yes!  You can substitue with  Unsweetened Red Grape Juice.  The Red Grape Juice is a great substitute and  people will never be able to tell the difference.    Just don't mention the substitution or any of the ingredients in your recipe.  I'm sure everyone will rave about your dish.
