If so, can you purchase them in drugstores or on-line, and are they accurate?

  1. Well, yes and no.   For the home based DNA tests you must collect a sample and send it into a lab.  So part is done at home (dna collection, typically needs a blood cell or saliva) and the analysis is done in a lab.

  2. look at the site below and see if it answers all your concerns.

  3. yes go to the website from the other answer i did it and i came out right it cost like 200.00 but its worth it

  4. You can take the test at home, but you will have to send it in to a lab. Usually, they only give you karotypes, if you want a medical analysis, you will most likely have to meet with a genetic counselor.

  5. well probably but it could be really expensive if it was a proper blood test with all the equipment and stuff.

  6. Well. It depends on what gene you want to have tested. For common ones you can order a kit from an online genetic testing lab and you can send them in a blood sample. They test it and send you the results. These tests cost about 200-800 dollars depending on the gene you're interested in.

What I think you're asking is there one you can do yourself at home, and that's a distinct no. Genetic testing is quite complicated and uses some pretty heavy lab equipment. The polymerase chain reaction which is common to almost all genetic tests requires a machine called a thermocycler - last I looked they cost around 10,000 dollars. These are not easy tests to do by any means.

If I may ask, what are you interested in testing?
