  1. I was talking to a Leki rep the other day. He told me women's poles are just poles with a smaller diameter grip and feminine graphics. With Leki, they just use the ultralight poles they already make (because they already are smaller in diameter) and slap on the ladies' graphics. Komperdall just puts smaller grips on its regular poles.

I've seen "women's" poles with other companies...some are just regular poles painted a girly color. K2 was notorious for doing this in the early 90's.

Composite poles are thinner than aluminum anyway....men's and women's are about the same. Maybe the grip is smaller.

I lump ski poles and trekking poles together in the same category. It's more marketing and less ergonomics.

  2. Ski poles are usually sized by the person's height and the specific type of skiing.

I've never heard of gender-specific poles, but that doesn't mean that some company hasn't figured out a marketing ploy.

  3. Maybe in the form of the graphics/color scheme. But as far as functionality goes, poles are pretty much unisex.
