  1. We also homeschool cheaply.  Our main cost is internet and gas to go to library.  We have 'invested' in yardsale homeschool books and books from Goodwill but our main resources are right here with the free sites.  We use many audio/video resources with college lectures from various colleges that post their lectures online.

  2. try www.k12.com but you would have to follow there program if your not interested in program try your local library gets homeschooling books they have many websites in them good luck

  3. Which materials are you looking for?

Homeschooling means you get to choose what you want to do. You can use library materials, worksheets or even ebooks you find online, you can purchase materials... It's all up to you.

If you sign up with an online/virtual public or charter school, you'll have stuff available for free. You'd have to see how they would accommodate your son's issues.

You might try doing a search in Yahoo Groups for groups on homeschooling kids with special needs, or do a search specifically for things like homeschool dyscalculia, homeschool tourette's, etc. They'll be able to share what they've used, make recommendations, etc.

  4. The Book Samaritan gives away free homeschool curriculum; the link is below:

    http://www.booksamaritan.com/

Also, I own and moderate an online homeschool resource list for free/low cost homeschooling resources.  There are over 130 links listed on the site.  Please feel free to join; the link to the site is below:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/christianh...

Also, the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has information on homeschooling children with special needs:

    http://www.hslda.org/strugglinglearner/d...

I hope this information is helpful.

  5. Yep, there are many free homeschooling materials.  I homeschool my gifted/dyslexic son for very little.

There's actually a book written on this that you can get at many public libraries - it's titled Homeschool Your Child for Free (or something very, very close to that).  It's sectioned out by subject and grade level, and offers tons of free online and snail mail resources for homeschooling.

I would also recommend getting in touch with your local homeschool group; they can give you the low-down on all of the resources in your area.  There are likely moms in that group who have been homeschooling for years, who have encountered the same disorders and needs, who can answer a lot of your questions.

    Hope that helps!

  6. Yep...from the library, internet etc. You gather the information yourself for free and then make your own (equally free) homeschool materials.

That's what we do in our family and it costs our parents about $50 per year, per kid to homeschool.

Also try checking other homeschoolers in your area; we sometimes swap materials with other families for free too.

Or you can get used resources, books etc pretty cheaply from local op-shops.

And don't forget that often companies will sponsor educational material that you can get for the cost of a phone call/email (just have to be aware of any bias within their own material...but you could even use the existence of advertising, sponsorship etc in materials to help teach your son some good critical thinking skills!)

Really, it's a trade off between the amount of money you wish to spend on prepared materials (expensive but relatively hassle free) vs the amount of time available to you to spend researching and preparing your own materials (cheap but potentially time consuming).

  7. Not really, this is a capitalistic society.

    You pay as you go

You even pay for public schools with rent and propety taxes

There IS the public library, paid for by your taxes

  8. The public library is FREE free free. Most have an entire section on homeschooling, so you can look at books about it, set up your own program and find books to teach from. I have done so much stuff there, we visit two or three times a week.  I even got my sons algebra textbook there, and just renewed until he mastered it.

There are online programs, I think k12 is free is a few states. You can also find several low-cost programs. There are curriculum sites, some of which you can get for free by doing reviews and posting them.

also, contact your local homeschooling support group. They often have borrowing libraries, curriculum exchanges and sometimes parents just give away old curricula for free.

  9. Th book Samaritan is one, however you have to request these early in the year, so you may be able to get on the list for next school year; just contact them at

    http://www.booksamaritan.com/

Then your local library can be a great resource, and if they don't have the books you'd like, use the inter-library loan program.

Local schools private, and public often hold end of the year book give aways, these are open to the public, and can have all you are looking for.

If you have found a local home school group for support, and activities for your child, the families you will meet sometimes will be able to loan you some of their books if they do not use them at that time.

There are many ways to use free or very inexpensive resources.

I will post a long list of Internet resources as well; these may be of some help when you are starting out.

    Blessings, and good luck.

This site does require a $20.00 yearly fee to have full use of all their printable materials, but it is well worth it.

You can check them out for free, but it is a lot of curriculum in one place.
