  1. Not a chance. Certain leagues that use the promotion and relegation set up are trying to do away with it, so I don't think leagues that are not currently using it will pick it up.

One of the league's I refer to is the English Super League (Rugby League) they've found that the club's that get relegated automatically become at a disadvantage due to dramatically reduced Television Revenue etc... If the AFL instituted a pyramid system it would have drastic effects on the competitive balance of the league. More then likely you'd find it would expediate the death of a Melbourne team.

So yeah I very much doubt the AFL will ever move to any other system then 18 teams competing on one league table for 8 spots in the finals. I still think that 18 teams is not sustainable and its an error in itself, but only time will tell.

  2. it should be more exciting

  3. Even though the league are talking about an 18 team competition I think everybody knows that two Melbourne teams are going to have to relocate or perish - bye bye Kangaroos and Melbourne.

There will only be a 16 team competition

  4. They might split it up into two conferences, with a final four for each conference and the ultimate winners of each conference playing each other, then again I believe there are to many teams now, it should be reduced to 14 teams and everyone playing each other twice over 26 rounds thus removing the pre season cup.

  5. The surprise may be that the Kangaroos will accept - though kicking and screaming - being located on the Gold Coast, but RICHMOND will give their team new identities rather than go to Blacktown in Western Sydney.

    Wouldn't you?

As if they were required to go to Dandenong in Victoria, Warrane in Tasmania, and I don't know the equivalent in Q, SA or WA but there must be one - Adelaide Crows supporters look like DandeNONGS!

Richmond in Blacktown would need to wear knuckle dusters - just to interchange on the field.

Whereas if the League had the brains to base a team in Canberra, within reach of Sydney and Melbourne and full of AFL fans, or even in Wagga or Albury/Wodonga....there would be less resistance.

  6. hmm....very interesting prospect.....

but I think that you would need a minimum of 24 teams....if you had a 2 division comp with 18 teams, then its two 9 team comps.

Wait.....hmm....another 200 or so years when there is 32 teams, then it will be a little like that!

  7. No.  The two new teams will be introduced to cull the Kangaroos (pun intended)

  8. no way man!!! i hope they d all b in z same dividion!!! coz then theres more games!!! and niether essendon nor carlton will come last in z ladder!!!!!!haha
