Is there a term in January or February?

Please help me. I am planning to study in Germany and enter a university in January or February.

I don't understand when the Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall semesters starts & ends? What semester(or trimester or quarter) starts in January (or February)?

There are two semesters: summer semester starts usually in April and ends in Juli/August and winter semester starts in October and ends in February/March.

So if you have courses starting in Febraury that might be some preparation courses or vacation courses but no regular semester stuff.

Here the official dates for Heidelberg university. I'm not 100% shure, but I think the dates are all the same in whole Germany. Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have those dates, of that I'm sure:

Winter 2006/2007

Applications 01. June 2006 until 15. July 2006

Term 01. Octobre 2006 until 31. March 2007

Lectures 16. Octobre 2006 until 10. February 2007

No lectures22. December 2006 until 06. January 2007

Summer 2007

Application01. December 2006 until 15. Januar 2007

Term 01. April 2007 until 30. September 2007

Lectures 16. April 2007 until 28. July 2007

Use your extra time to learn the language, all the universities have preparation courses before the term begins :-)

Contact the University for which you plan to enter. They will be able to help you with this type of question.
