Is there a time limit by which energy (gas / electricity) suppliers have to send you a bill by?

Say, you've never had a bill in 5 years then suddenly they expect you to pay a massive bill..... even though they themselves admit they didn't send any bills at all during the 5 years?

  1. Is  this  for  real?  I would think they  would  have to  prove it and perhaps  make  a settlement  with you but that's  still a  lot of  bill. But  again  you had to know that the service  was  not  free.    I once  switched  phone  companies.  They messed up when I  wanted  service off,  and I could  call out but  not  get calls in and  got away with that several months   till I decided to get  other  service back and  was  truthful with them what happened.  They fixed  me  up and  never heard  from others  again.
