Is there a tool for taking the casing off copper wire ?

I dont want to burn it cause it lowers the price. Ive been doing it for a year with a grinder and stanley knife just looking to speed up the process.

there is a commercial tool runs off hydrolics.

these are used for striping large underground or undersea reclaimed armoured cables.

Go to kleintools.com. In the catagory box select "knives and cutting tools"  Click special purpose knives. There you will find Cable-Sheath Splitting Knife. This is what electrical companies use to commercially remove the pvc jacket that is on twisted and solid strand copper. Hope this helps.

if its for removing little bits to get a connection use the stripper as they say if its for getting the copper back for scrap then have a fire and burn it off

Wire strippers are what you need.

Unless you want to remove all of the outer casing from a lot of copper wire, in which case just throw it on a fire which will burn away the casing leaving you with the copper from inside.

yes their are tools to remove the PVC casing from electrical cable there is also strippers for PYRO also  this cable has a copper and silica outer.

If you're trying to salvage copper wire and decide to go with the fire route be aware that the smoke from some of that insulation is extremely toxic. Make darn sure you get far enough away that you aren't breathing any of it.

I have found A good hooked electrician's knife works the best once you understand how to use the hook. The curve of the knife lets you ride down the copper and split off the insulation in one motion.

i made my own, used o piece of battern with a small hole drilled through it. knocked a stanley knife blade in to the battern so the tip of the blade would cut the the plastic casing as the wire is pulled through. used zip ties to keep the blade in position, once the cable is pulled through its really easy to peel the copper away from the casing. if you can s***w the battern to something secure its even better. we all use this method at work

Yes! but don't go to a hard ware store because you will pay though the nose for one. Go to a pound/ Discount shop in the high street and get one for a quid. My mate is an electrician and he's got a cheapo...he's had it ages and swears by it...you cannot get a better recommendation than that.

Yes it is a stripper and also has the facility to cut the wire. You can get one from any hardware store.

but you can use side cutters by nipping the plastic coating and turning the cutters or if it just small houswhold wire you can use youre teeth?

Get yourself a good style butchers knife, a decent  calor gas burner, and keep the knife hot.........comes off like butter.
