  1. You will find that most digital TVs include a signal strength meter in their channel setup menu selections!


  2. Yes, they make a test set for this very purpose.  They would be a bit pricey for home use.  I usually use a spectrum analyzer, however those are quite expensive and not for consumers.

    Actually, most TV antennas are not THAT directional.  If you get them to within about +/- 30 degrees or so, you are not going to see a whole lot of difference, even with test equipment.  Use http://www.antennaweb.org or a similar resource and a hand held magnetic compass.

  3. The only tool i use at work is a TV meter but cost us approx £300.

    Be very expensive if your just doing something for your tv reception.

  4. yes there is a uhf/vhf meter. they test the signal strength for tv and radio. but also make sure you are on the correct polarity in your area. some areas have the spines on the tv areal going up and down some left to right.
