Is there a tornado watch for New Jersey?

My history teacher said there was a tornado watch or warning,if there isn't one,is it possible that the tornados that have happened today can hit New Jersey?Will a tornado ever hit New Jersey because the teacher assistant said New Jersey is too hilly and that tornados only happen in flat areas. Its cloudy here and its raining,also they said stay away from windows during a tornado,but I have windows all over my house what do I do? I just want to be prepared.

New Jersey doesn't often get hit with Tornados, but it does happen and I've seen the damage from them in NJ.

I have not heard of any today.

Once in a while we do get one, but they ussualy dont amount to much here.

There is no tornado watch or warning for any part of New Jersey as of 3:00pm EDT May 12,2008.

Living in Texas and in "tornado alley" my entire life, we've been taught on what to do if a tornado is in the area.  But of course, even with the best preparations, you can be caught off guard and there's nothing anyone can do about it.  When we are under a tornado watch (a "watch" meaning conditions may result in tornadoes during thunderstorms...as compared to a "warning" which means take cover immediately because funnel clouds have been spotted) always get out of the car and go into a sturdy building and away from glass. If there aren't any buildings around, get out and just lie flat in a ditch. Stay away from windows inside your house and if there is an actual warning, go to an interior room or hallway, get in the bathtub if necessary and cover your head.  Our storm sirens start sounding but I know that not all areas have these, so just always pay attention to what the weather is doing.
