  1. there are several ways and here are some of the trains that do

    New York to Los Angeles

Crescent NY to New Orleans, Sunset Limited NO to LA.

New York to Seattle/San Fransisco/Los Angeles

Lakeshore Limited NY to Chicago then

Chicago to Seattle -- Empire Builder

Chicago to San Fransisco (Emeryville) California Zephyr

Chicago to Los Angeles -- Southwest Chief

This is all that I know of at this time

    Hope it helps

  2. amtrak has one from Florida to California. IT is a direct ride.

  3. Yes, the national railroad company is Amtrak, and they have cross-country trains.  See amtrak.com

  4. Which country?

There are several countries with an east and a west coast.

Canada has the Via Rail, with trains from both coasts to Toronto.

England has trains coast to coast, and north to south as well.

Even the Netherlands, while there is little east coast, has a train coming to it, and yes, there are also trains on the west coast.

Russia has a famous train from Moscow to the east coast.

In all cases you will have at least one change.

But in England I think I remember one train running from Newcastle to Carlisle, while not completely coast to coast, near enough.

And of course, Australia has some famous ones too, east to west coast, the Indian Pacific. And one from north to south as well, the Ghan.

Norway has the well known Bergen Oslo train.

I am not sure about the rest of the world, like South America and Mexico, Africa and so on, many countries do not span the continent, but those that do are bound to have coast to coast public transport, maybe even by train.

For the USA, if you meant that country, you can find the info in the other answers.

Info on all trains can be found on internet.

If you google on the name of the train, if known, or the towns along the line, you can find loads of information.

A site that has info on trains all over the world is the man in seat 61:

    http://www.seat61.com/

  5. Yes, you can ride all the way across the country by train, but not without making a connection. Amtrak is the National Railroad and goes all over. To see where Amtrak goes, go to Amtrak.com, then click on the route tab at the top near the middle. There is a map you can open that shows all the routes.

It takes about 3-3 1/2 days to go across the country including layover for connections.
