I've heard there are vessels that carry containers on their decks and liquid bulk in their belly's.

  1. Not enough information.

You can put bulk liquid into containers (IBC's) and load them on pallets just like any other cargo.

  2. Some of the old Lykes Brothers ships had tanks that they could carry small amounts of liquid cargoes, but these ships were general cargo ships - but they could carry containers.  Mainly they carried Bay-rite, Molasses, Lube Oils, and even Fish Oils in these small liquid tanks.

In fact a small one hold box ship i had to survey a few times in the past also had a couple of small tanks for liquid cargoes.

They also do make tanks for liquid cargoes that fit in a container frame, so they can be loaded direct on a container ship.  STOLT shipping has many of these tank containers.

But typically you will not see a tanker carry containers.

    Cheers!

  3. Yes, the former Union Carbide had a ship that went up and down the US east coast to their refinery in Texas City, TX, that had that capability. They also had an ocean barge that did the same thing between Texas City and Puerto Rico.
