  1. Totally depends on where you are talking about.  A place like Atlanta that is so sparsely populated i would say no.  But a more crowded place like san fran or Seattle would be possible.  U would just have to boost public transportation by quite a bit.

  2. of course.  We could also use busses!

  3. yes. riding bikes, mopeds, mass transportation, skateboards, etc.

fuel wise there is hydrogen and, i think they're working on, solar panel cars

  4. No, so please continue to use and enjoy your vehicle.

    Patrick from Detroit.

  5. Yes and no.  100 years ago it was no problem not to have a car and most people didn't have one or really need one.  But since then, since WWII especially, we have been spreading out to the suburbs, distributing ourselves over the land in a way as to make public transportation less efficient and convenient and make a car more of a necessity.  We can begin to reverse this process but it didn't take place in a day and it will take a while to change.

In the meanwhile there are lots of things we can do to cut our energy consumption by half or more.  For starters we could stop buying ginormous SUVs and get back into small, efficient cars.  We could share cars for commutes.  We could begin rebuilding the public transportation infrastructure we destroyed in the 20s, 30s and 40s.  We could give people incentives to buy scooters and motorcycles.

  6. Tubes...Everywhere

  7. Putting one foot in front of the other!

  8. I couldn't find a better alternative to cars themselves, so I looked into using an alternative to gasoline, not cars. What I ended up with was 2 cars that run on natural gas (methane) instead of gasoline. It's much cleaner and cheaper to use, and natural gas is produced domestically, so the money I spend on it stays here in our own economy. Lots of upside! The downside is that not every area has natural gas stations around, so you have to check into it for yourself and your own area to see if it will work for you. If everyone got their local government into the idea and more filling stations were put in, we'd all be a lot better off. I really enjoy my cars, and wish everyone had one.

  9. motorcycle,scooter,bike,walk,moped,bus,c... ride

  10. You could just bike you know.  In the space it takes you to go from your house to work, think of all the gas you could save if repeated!  And it's good for your health.

  11. A lot of New Yorkers have never owned or driven an automobile in their lives. Nor did people in most cities: you took the bus, or occasionally a taxicab.  Of course bikes and motorcycles and walking work pretty well.  Trains are good, too.  The automobile commute to work is a fairly recent phenomenon--it really only took off in the 1960's when freeways were built and public transit was eliminated.
