Is there a viable alternative to using cfc's?

yes, we have significantly decrease the use of CFC because it is believed that is causing the depletion of ozone layer. The carbon is more likely to come off to bind to the Oxygen causing O3 (ozone) to dissociate to O2 and O.

We already pretty much avoid the use of CFCs. I'm not exactly sure what the replacement is but CFCs got banned for a lot of uses after the whole stink in the 90s about holes in the ozone layer.

EDIT: After some research it seems that by 2010 the production of CFCs should be completely eliminated.

It seems that they're how replaced by HCFCs and HFCs.
