I have been using Sony Vegas pro 08 and was wondering if there is anything more advance than that for video editing?

Also, you can use Photoshop which may be difficult for us:

  3. Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere Pro.

Avid has been an industry standard in Hollywood since the early 90s. It's the most used NLE for filmmakers unwilling to compromise quality. It's list price is $2,500, but you can get a student discount for $295 on JourneyED.com (I'd give you a link, but I could get in trouble).

Avid is arguably THE most advanced editing system (along with Final Cut Studio for Macs), but it has a bit of a learning curve, as expected. It's not as simple as you'd think.

NOTE: beware of Avid's system requirements; it's quite picky about which computers it wants to work on....Adobe is completely lax in comparison (I used it on a .9GHz Compaq....)

Adobe is an excellent video editor as well, but doesn't have quite the profile of Avid. It's list price is $700, but there's a student discount on JourneyED for $350. What's nice about Adobe is that they make many other programs like Flash Pro, Soundbooth, After Effects, etc. making a real nice production package (at extra cost of course), but Adobe products work really well together. You can use Adobe products with Avid, but they are not as directly compatible. You have to render your video to switch back and forth b/w programs.

Hope that helps, and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. So, good luck!
