  1. every job will have a period of DEP ranging from a week or so to a full year..or longer.   he has to see what he qualifies for first, then he will sit down with a Detailer who will give him a selection to choose from.  whatever one he choose will determine how long he is in DEP.

he cannot ship to Boot camp until there is a slot for him in A school.  they time the nine weeks of Boot to end just prior to the A school starting.

  2. Yeah the different jobs will have different requirements, so I cannot tell you for sure if there are openings in that field.  I swore in to submarine service in May, and they were very eager to have me.

He probably wont have a problem getting in, provided his record is good.

  3. he I was in the constuction batalion (seebees) thats what they are called and in fact if he is going active it is very hard to get in but for the reserves it is the only job available that was three months ago im not sure about right now but yeah it can be very difficult to aquire certain jobs.

    GO NAVY!!!

  4. The waiting lists are for jobs, not for service.  There is NO waiting list for the Air Force as someone mentioned.  You could join and ship out within a week if you picked a job they really needed filled.

Another reason could be his technical school training. In the Army its called Advanced Individual Training.  I don't know the exact term in the Navy, but its where he will learn his specific job or trade.  They only hold so many schools each year.  They have to send people through basic at certain times, to make sure they aren't just sitting around for months on end waiting for their school to begin.

A good job is worth waiting for.  If your husband qualifies for the job he wants then tell him to get a guaranteed contract and wait as long as it takes.

  5. It depends on what job he wants.  In some cases, it requires you delay shipping to basic training.  Here's how it works... A-school for job training has specific start-dates.  From that start-date, they work backwards to determine the date he'll need to ship to basic training, so he'll graduate from basic in time to get to his A-school as it starts.

  6. No, the only waiting lists I have heard of are in the Air Force. He will be able to join the Navy just fine.

  7. If he qualifies for the job that he would like, it may very well be a waiting list.  If he decides on and is qualified for another rate (job) he may be able to enter faster than the one he initially chose.  Don't know what they waiting list is for his job (probably a SEABEE), a recruiter should be able to answer that information, as they are the ones with the most up to date information.

  8. Depending on the rate, the waiting list can be ridiculously long! Corpsman have the longest wait. I know for a fact they are not shipping any more new corpsman recruits out till the spring. When I was at MEPS, this guys was going in as a BM. He wasn't shipping till January and this was in early July. Now, if you go in as a undesignated seaman, the wait is shorter. Plus, for construction SeeBees, I think they need people!
