Is there a way I can download a movie and then burn it on a cd-r that will play in a dvd player?

I want to download a movie to watch on my dvd player but I only have cds.

There are several ways to do it.  The easiest way is to compress the movie to a DIVX file, which will fit on a single CD.  But to do this you need a DVD player that will play DIVX format (which is similar to AVI).  Some will, most won't.  But check yours to see if it says AVI or DIVX on it.

The next way is to convert the DVD to VCD or SVCD (Video CD and Super Video CD).  These are the same as DVD except they are CDs and they only play for 45 min., so most movies fit on two of them.  I think all DVD players will play them.  There is software to convert a DVD to MPEG, then split the MPEG files and convert them back to VOB on an SVCD.  It sounds more complicated than it really is.
