I have Windows XP Professional. I am having problems accessing programs because the system administrator account has been deleted. I believe my children deleted the account and changed some settings. Is there a way I can reset the computer to the way it was when I first bought it?

  1. You can do a system restore.

Make sure you backup all your important files, pictures, music, videos, etc. because if you do the restore, everything will be gone. It will be just like when you took it out of the box when it was new.

  2. System Restore will Probably Work^^

  3. Yes, read your PC booklet for instructions on how to reformat your PC.

  4. If you are using a dell or hp or lenovo use the recovery partition by pressing a key combination at startup on lenovo it is the lenovo care button or f11 f11 f11 on hp you can do it with a menu in the system. Or acer use recovery cds. Or just grab your XP/Vista discs and rebuild

  5. yes

The administrator account cannot be deleted........

I would do a system repair than a reinstall and I would have THEIR OWN login's  separate from yours and it is not a good idea to be loged-in as administrator.

I would also get a good registry cleaner too.

  6. Other than the System Restore said by Fashion...

On certain Dell and HP and probably more, there is a recovery partition on the computer which means:

When your computer starts up, you would see (in the very beginning, b4 getting to Windows) click F9 for Recovery Partition. Once it is clicked you can follow the directions to reset your computer back to new.  Some let you choose to do a big reset (deleting all of you files) and a small one where it would just reinstall Windows and you stuff would still be somewhere on the hard drive.

To do the System Restore: go to Microsoft link.
