Is there a way for me to test the RAM on my computer to see if it's working properly?

I am not a techie or a turbo nerd, and I'm not familiar with technical jargon. So please don't suggest something that won't be easy for me to do.

Keep in mind just to fill in a little bit of information on the first answer. You can still put in RAM and Memtest would not pick up the errors.

I bought 1GB RAM stick and it turned out that it was giving me errors and Memtest never picked up that it was the wrong stick so beware when testing RAM out as it can give you major problems and the programs will never be able to determine if its giving you errors.

Memtest86 is a program that you need to boot up from and it will check your memory for any errors.

It takes some time though so I suggest you do that during one night.

Cent OS

there are operating system named CentOS (or some more linux distributives), that could startup directly from CD/DVD

so you need to find it, download (its free), burn to a cd, boot from it

you will see "boot: " prompt

press F2 to see MemTest86+ option - it is an utility to test your ram

choose it and just wait - it will write all the test results on the screen

then just hit esc to reboot and startup your system normally

MemTest86+ is only a way to check your RAM FOR SURE!!! any memory checkers working under running operating system like windows, works with Virtual memory, NOT WITH REAL really!!!

so all you need are bootable cd with memtest86+ utility

go to start then right click my computer and go to properties then go to general and towards the bottom of the window it will tell you how much ram you have in your computer that it recognizes if you know how much ram you have installed then you will know if its working or not. Also i find the term turbo nerd offensive so in the future watch what your calling the people that are helping you.
