Yes, start by using "one" as in "Someone" and "to."  People will have a great deal more respect for you.  

Read a lot.  You'd be amazed how much your brain will absorb just from reading.  Ready books, articles anything you can, about artists (i.e. songwriters) that inspire you.  You will learn thier techniques and develope some of your own.
