Is there a way of using 3d software to wrap jpg images on objects/wire frames/scapes/etc..

Question

I need some information on 3d software, if it is easy to make or import an object like a cube or a character and put graphics from jpg or bmp so that it will display/wrap to the object. If there is software that does this how do you complete the task.

there are programs that allow mapping images onto 3d design objects, yet not always so easy with mixing formats,
