Is there a way to 'dump' photos from a camera (EOS 40D) onto an external hard disc without a computer?

  1. Something like an Epson P3000 or P5000 would do it.

    They're completely portable - battery powered - and have a slot for the CF, SD, pr whatever size card.

    But they're fairly expensive.  Currently the 3000 is going for a little less than $400.

    Great tool, though, for anyone who's in the field and needs the safety and volume of backup  space they offer.

    There are some expensive "photo wallets" that can do that for you, but they cost as much as an inexpensive computer.

    You may want to just buy some extra CF cards (twin pack of 2GB cards for $20 when on sale) or carry your notebook computer with you when on location.

  3. you will need an driver to make the hard disc.  Some cameras come with a driver or have an accessory but not many. If you already have the camera you will have to use the directions that came with it.
