Question:

Is there a way to add some efficiency to a wood burning fireplace?

Our fireplace is only 4 years old, but is not adaptable to a blower. And my husband wants to keep the fireplace woodburning - he's not interested in converting it to a gas fireplace. Any suggestions?

  1. put an extra layer of heavy firebrick and let the ashes stay awhile to better insulate the coals. You might get some more heat this way - even after the fire.

    Good luck!

  2. Fit a Jetmaster or similar insert. They make open fire versions that increase efficiency to about 60% and closed door slow combustion versions too

  3. As stated, they do make aftermarket blowers. I am assuming you have glass doors. These make a big difference since they radiate heat and also prevent air from the room being sucked up and out of the chimney.
