I've found some companies charge 3% and a booking fee for on line bookings eg Travelbag

  1. There is no way to avoid the fees ---That's how the finance companies make their money

  2. If you have your heart set on booking through a website then you are stuck with the price the website quotes including any booking fees and credit card charges.

If you are living somewhere where you have access to a physical travel agent (either a shopfront or over the phone) you may be able to negotiate a deal for them to waive any booking fee. They may also have other forms of payment such as cheque, cash or bank transfer.
