Is there a way to avoid getting ingrown hairs when I shave my armpits?

Everytime I shave my armpits I get ingrown hairs and it looks horrible. I also can't seem to get a close enough shave and it never looks completely clear of hair. I hate it! I have bought so many different razors to see if they help me but nothing seems to work. Is there something I am doing wrong? I see other people with totally clear and smooth armpits but I can't seem to accomplish this =(. I feel so weird obsessing over it but it's something I've become quite self conscious about.

  1. Yeah I agree with answer 1. I would use an exfoliant, try St. Ives Apricot Scrub or a body sugar scrub  and a wash cloth and gently exfoliate before you shave - I've heard this is best to do on your legs first too -  and make sure you're using a fresh razor rather than a dull one and of course shaving cream to protect

  2. Actually yes, you need to exfoliate the area after you shave it, I work in a salon and this is what the skin care team recommends to clients. They say a loofah, or one of these odd looking mesh sponges work.
