Is there a way to be home schooled without a parent being present?

My child doesn't like high school and we move frequently due to the military. She wants to be home schooled but with work I do not have the time. I know of people that get home schooled but they work at their own pace online without a parent having to be present. Do you know of any of these types of schooling in South Carolina?

  1. call your local school and ask about the home schooling in your area. there are usually families who homeschool and other kids go to their houses to go to school.

my sister used to be a teacher in the public school system; she doesn't agree with the rules and regulations in the public system so she works privately for homeschooling parents.

  2. my mom has to deal with my other sibs. I just do saxon. I do it in my room while my mom is busy. It says what to do in it. I dont need her here with me. I am perfectly fine. no program needed. I also go to a co-op. We go once a week and get a weeks worth of homework. Pretty much a school except we only go once.

  3. my boy friend is home schooled and his moms always working....and the way they did that put him on hosptial home bound. and he's not even really sick. they just did for the reason you need it.

  4. Here are some other online options:

    Good luck!

  5. Check out  Connections Academy. It's an online "public school" and he could be living anywhere and attend. It could be perfect for a student who moves a lot.

  6. Google it on line. Some states have computer programs and tutors that help. At least in Ohio they do. I found some by searching on line.

EDIT: The program that HS Mom gave you a link to is the program that I was talking about. We have a very similar program in Ohio!

  7. When you do move frequently...that's a good reason to home-school.  Do you trust that child to stay focused while they are at home and you are at work?  After a certain point in the homeschooling process it tends be more "student" than parent teaching.  It's not as interesting without the parent to help them come up with new and fun ways to learn things but it can be done.

  8. I'm 16 and live in Arizona. I'm doing something called AZVA (Arizona Virtual Academy). It is through the K12 site that HS Mom posted. I'm sure South Carolina has one. It is a very good program and offers a lot. It is free also.

  9. Do NOT go to your local public school for information.  That is the last thing you want to do.  Nor do you want "home bound" education for your child.

Here is a great option you can choose while you're in SC:

It hasn't been approved yet, but I'm sure by fall it will be.  We use the same curriculum the school will use (as independent HS'ers) and it's incredible!!!!

  10. well you could also do what im doing im 16 and im homeschool'd but my parents dont do it they called the school district up and had them send a teacher to the house and its free so maybe if you talk to the district where u live you could find out more
