I'm serious, my little brother can work around almost any program. The stuff he views isn't exactly explicit, but it's sometimes contains sexual content. Most of the time it's blood and gore. Is there a way to program your computer/web browser to block particular sites?

  1. You can use the hosts file to prevent viewing of a given domain.

Info available at the source link below.

  2. activate parental controls or content adviser in the tools section of your browser..

  3. Alter your Hosts file & don't let him use the PC as an administrator.

To alter the Hosts file you need to locate it on your PC...Windows XP has it located in the Windows folder/System32/Drivers/etc folder.

You can open the hosts file by double clicking on it, then you will be asked what program you want to view it with, choose Wordpad to open the hosts file.

You need to leave the first entry in the Hosts file as it is ~ DO NOT alter this, ~ as this is the generic IP number for your PC. (localhost)

On the next line you need to type 127.0.0.1 (leave a space after it) & on the same line, type in the named address of the site you want to block....eg. 127.0.0.1  ad.a8.net

This will block the site from being viewed on your PC as, when this site is searched for, it sends the search back to your own PC & as you are not hosting that site, it won't load up on your PC ~ what does load up in it's place will be the 'this page cannot be displayed' page.

You also need to make the Hosts file 'Read Only' so that it cannot be opened & tampered with. If you want to add more sites to it later, you can change the read only status & add more sites in the way described above ~ just make sure you don't forget to make the file 'read only' when you have finished making alterations to it.
