Well, my computer will say if it's safe or not but try if your computer says it's not harmful

Download from trusted sites

Research that file/program and make sure it is not some sort of virus or spyware

Get a good virus scanner (not nortons, it's junk, but kaspersky and nod32 are good) and run suspicious files through it just in case.

Can also upload that file to virustotal and it will scan it for you through multiple virus scanners

Before downloading, right-click on the program and then choose scan the program with your antivirus software.
