If so, how?

And even if not, what types of fruit can you end up with?

I know of apples, oranges, and pears.

  1. No, I am pretty sure you cannot determine what kind of fruit you get to start out with. *sigh* But, I love that game. Any change we can exchange friend codes some time?

Apples, Oranges, Pears, Cherries. And coconuts wash up on shore, and I planted about 7 trees. Those are what I know of. Maybe google the rest?

I have cherries. I could give you some cherries, if you like. What is your native fruit?

  2. There's 5 types of fruits that can be native to your town:

Apples, Oranges, Pears, Peaches & Cherries.

Coconuts can be found in town, but they're always classified as non-native since coconuts drift into your town onto the beach.

Once you get different fruit in town, it can be an issue to remember which fruit is local.  However, there's a simple method to find out.

Collect & sell the fruit from a tree to Nook.  Foreign fruit will always sell for 500 Bells a piece while native fruit will only sell for 100 Bells a piece.

Find the fruit that sells for only 100 Bells in your town & you'll find your native fruit.

Please be aware that the native fruit in each town will vary & there's at 20% chance that the town you're visiting has the same native fruit...  so you can always try to make some money selling your native fruit elsewhere.
