Is there a way to disable 'my recent documents'?

Some resent documents can`t be deleted unless you use the Back up and Restore.Find the date that you installed it and when you go to Back up and Restore just set it to the Date before the Installation date.

right click on the start button

--> properties

--> choose the 'Start menu' - tab

--> costumize

--> choose the 'Advanced' tab

--> At the bottom you can clear the 'my recent documents'-list, or choose not to display it anymore.

ok right click on your start bar (the bar besite the start) and click properties click start menu tab, and click costumize. then click on advanced tab and uncheck list my most recently opened documents.then click ok
