Is there a way to ease a toothache at home?

Question

My husband has an excruciating toothache, but unfortunately all the dentists offices are closed as it's labor day weekend. Is there something i can give him to ease his pain and discomfort until the holiday weekend is over and he can be seen? Please give me any suggestions you can, I hate watching my husband suffer!

ibuprofen to start with....that is an anti inflammatory....try whiskey...some people rub it on babies gums...seriously....or try ora jel....gl!

Clove oil rubbed on the tooth and surrounding gum is a really good home remedy. As well as that id suggest taking some form of painkillers like ibuprofen and obviously to avoid any things that make it worse like hot or cold drinks.

If you have any left over pain medications like hydrocodone or oxycodone, those would be the obvious choice.  However, those are not always available.  You could try clove oil.  It is what they use in dentist offices to treat dry socket (a very painful condition after tooth extraction). It is a natural antiseptic and pain reliever.  Over the counter pain relievers may help also, such as ibuprofen or tylenol.  And if all else fails, the only place left would be the ER.  It's going to be a wait, but they may be able to give him some stronger pain meds until the dentist opens back up on Tuesday.  Good luck.

You can leave salt water(warm) in your mouth for 30 seconds, then spit it out. Then it will soften up the whole area.

Some reasons for tooth aches are that if you have any open tooth sockets or that theres a gap between your teeth so food will get caught in that gap, causing the pain.

Tylenol or advil.  an if you have some type of antibiotic, u can start on that, until you see the dentist, that is in case of there is an infection. and there is also topical cream called orajel.

Take Advil, 2 at a time. You can take up to 6 a day. Also, go to the local pharmacy and buy this stuff thats orange liquid and what you do is rub it over the tooth. It will numb the pain and, trust me! It works wonders! Oh my gosh! I loved it! It made the pain go away ( for a period of time ) Just ask someone who works there to help  you find it.

Sorry bout the tooth but I had the same problem.

Clove oil:Is great to use for toothaches. Apply a little on the affected tooth for some time and then rinse with warm water. Boil 5 grams of fresh peppermint in 1 cup water with a little salt. immediate relief from a toothache, soak a small cotton ball in a drop or two of clove oil. This is considered to be the best home remedy and will help to reduce pain and inflammation as well as fight any infection. If you do not have clove oil you can chew a couple of cloves instead. Make sure that you do this with the tooth that is aching and allow the chewed clove paste to remain around the tooth. You can also mash a garlic pod and mix it with a glass of wheat grass juice which will cause the swelling and the pain to subside. Apply a drop of vanilla or almond extract (not essence) to the aching area around the tooth for quick relief.

If your toothache is caused by a food particle or a fish bone that is stuck between your teeth gargle your mouth with hydrogen Peroxide to remove the obstruction.
