Question:

Is there a way to finalise a DVD+R that was recorded on a Cyberhome machine on my PC?

I had a cyberhome dvd recorder and when it broke I was left with a load of DVD+Rs that I'd not finalised.

They play on my new recorder but not in the normal player and there is no option to finalise them on the new recorder.

I am hoping someone might have a suggestion on how I can finalise them on my PC.

  1. The finalization process is somewhat an internal process to decode the files the machine itself created and understands. When a disc if finalized it virtually then ensures all machines recognize it.

You'd have to find another unit that has this same internal "language" to finalize it for universal compatibility so finalizing it on another unit may be very difficult.

However, all is not lost. Instead of finalizing these discs, a good secondary solution is extracting the content.

    Use NeroVision.

    Load your disc

Choose DvD video or VR (both work)

    Next page Import Disc

The files should appear in a separate window

Choose the files you want and save them to a folder of your choice.

Now at least you have the content in .mpg files. You will have to re-author, and reburn, these files again with new menus to a new disc.

Yeah a pain, but at least you saved your files.

(NeroVision, as well as others, can do the reauthoring for you.)

EDIT: You can try IsoBuster to do your extracting as well as NeroVision, but i find it too sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwww...
