I think I will make an appointment with the Vet this week and see what he says. I hope he can help him?

  1. blood test for allergies 1500.00 not cheap. ask your vet for alternatives. my vet suggested cool baths and 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar. plus benedryl capsules not caplets by weight. my dog is 95lbs. and he gets 3pills 3xs a day

  2. one of mine is allergic to pet dander, of all things...

  3. well go around your house and each time u start to sneezee u know that theres something right there in dat room dats makin u allergic its probally your carpet if u have a carpet cuz my neice is allergic to my carpet and she has astma

  4. I am not a Vet, but what I have learned from reading various lists is that dogs are often allergic to contents in even good quality dog foods, and that there are a few dog foods available that don't contain any of the foods (meats and grains) that dogs are commonly allergic to. They are vegetarian and unless your dog is allergic to all meat protein (rare) you will want to supplement with some meat.

You keep the dog on the food for 3 - 4 weeks to purge his system. Then you add a little of one protein for a week, such as a few ounces of chicken, or fish or lamb or beef. This way you can find out what foods he can tolerate. The folks I know have kept their dogs on the low allergy dog foods and added whatever meat source their dog could eat.

  5. My Aunts Jack Russel has this problem. They are making an appoitment to get her tested to see what she is allergic to. The test are not cheap. Dixie, the Jack Russel,it's going to cost them over a thousand dollars.

If I were you, I'd try and figure out what she was allergic to. There are some dogs that are allergic to grass. Maybe hold of taking her outside for a day and if she scratches the same or more, you know that thats not it. Take away things in your house and see if that is what is affecting your dog.

    Good luck!

  6. ~ I went to the vet to find out about Reesy ( my Tibetan Spaniel) who was always scratching, l*****g and having ear problems.  The allergy test was going to cost 300.00, however they said to first try the Science Diet z/d for allergies...that is when I told them to go "F" themselves.  Back then is when I switched and went to Canidae....no luck.  My other dogs were looking better but like I said earlier not thriving.  Then I went to California Natural and things really improved but had room to be better.  Next was Innova.  All of my dogs went ape schit on the taste.  After a little bit of reading I did EVO; both red meat and chicken.  Reesy improved drastictally.  Within 3 months her hair looked better, she stopped l*****g her feet, her hot spots were gone and her tear stains were gone.  She was a new dog.  After more research I went to Orijen just because I like the company and quality better, also the fish is a big winner in this house.

This was after seeing numerous vets who told me to switch to Science Diet and that she was allergic to fleas and grass.  I think they give a blanket "allergy" to all dogs that exhibit these problems and never really find out what it is.  Reesy is not allergic to grass, yet every vet said she was.  All I did was change the food and experiment with it.  Dogs have 2 problems, food and fleas and both will create havoc.  I have seen dogs show signs of allergies when they drink stale water or drink out of dirty bowls.

Just giving you a warn to be ready to ward of the SD Z/D attack!
