Is there a way to find out who is buried at a paupers grave or Potter's field?

in the US it's public record and should be on file at either the City or county municipal building.

Here in the UK, there are records kept of every burial or cremation at that particular cemetery, this includes paupers or common graves. Common graves being that they always remain the property of the council, you can't  have a headstone mounted on the grave, or any thing to indicate who is buried in the plot. I have a gr/gr/gr gran buried in such a grave, the information came from the superintendent at the cemetery.

In whatever town the potter's field is in, there will be either a Health Department or Office of Vital Records that keeps a record of every burial. There's also likely to be an information center that can tell you who is responsible for the potter's field.
