Question:

Is there a way to find out your visual acuity without consulting your optometrist?

I had an eye exam today - all I know is that my new contact prescription for my left eye is -7.00, and for the right it's -6.50. The doctor said because of a previous retinal macular hemorrhage I can't achieve 20/20 vision even with correction. I also have slight astigmatism.

Does anyone somehow magically know the answer here?

  1. Well, you could get a pretty good idea, if you had an accurately sized eye chart...and reading it from the precise distance it is calibrated for.

  2. Not really.  But since you just had an exam and your corrected acuity would have been measured, why not just call the optometrist's office and ask?  The assistant should be able to read it on your chart and tell you.
