Is there a way to get into the coast guard if they know you have ADHD?

my husband really wants to join. he was diagnosed when he was little and still is on medication for it. I think he would do just fine. maybe a docs note or something? any personal experience?

  1. My husband is in the Army and has ADHD. He isnt on meds for it though. He is on depression medication however which the army has put him on for the time being while he is in Korea. He would have to be examined though for them to make a decision for him. So, yes there are ways.


  2. Nope. You cannot be on medication for it. If you were diagnosed as a kid and no longer take medication, then you can get a doc's note. If he is still on it then he must need it. Talk to a recruiter. Maybe they can give you the information you need.

  3. The Coast Guard is NOT the Army.

  5. If he is on medication, he can not and SHOULD not join.
