  1. You buy service in packages, in the way DirecTV and other subscription TV providers bundle them up. Ala carte? No way.

  2. every subscription comes in packages. There are a few channels that you can purchase a la carte (the Outdoor Channel, Baby First, PBTV, to name a couple) but they're part of a small list.

The reason this is done this way is NOT for the money like people want to assume. Are you aware of how complicated a la carte channels would be for a company? Not just billing, but programming as well.

I can see how it would work, but it would lead up to complicated billing (and people complain about their bill being  hard to understand as it is) and complicated calls as to what channels the customer is and isn't supposed to have (not to mention the issue with credits regarding these channels).

Instead of opening a window to these problems for both the company AND the customer, cable and satellite companies have gone the route they have.

  3. Nope. They've been saying for years that they were looking into that. Too much money to be made for them with the packages. Would be sweet tho.
