I have XP professional. While I was away from the house my computer broke down and I've been using the illegal version ever since, not that I think it's better but because I didn't want to bother re install everything. Is there a way to update windows without passing WGA.

  1. No there is not, You must reinstall windows in order to get the all most important updates, as using pirated software is illegal. It only take 45-1 hour to reinstall winodws. I just did it for my sister and it was not a big deal. So I'm sure it wont be a big deal for you to do. Just do it, in the time it take you to wait for a bunch of answers, you could already be half way done putting windows back on the computer.

  2. Until last year I had a illegal copy of windows xp pro.

I had a hobby to find cracks and regkey, so to be able to use programs.

For years it was no problem to get the updates, but microsoft started to make life more difficult getting updates ect. I have been able to find all kind of cracks to fool microsoft. I was able to get updates, install ie7, install WMP11.

This year I bought a new pc and at the same time a legal copy of

    Windows XP Home.

You will no be able to install windows xp pro with an illegal copy,

You might be able to install it, but you will not get the necessary  updates, This could mean, that you put your (expensive) computer at risk.  How long do you have to save to get 100 dollars together.

Be clever for your self and get a legal copy. You still can,

Officially windoes xp is not for sale anymore and when you wait too long you will not be albe  to buy it anymoree. You will have to buy Vista, much more expensive and are you sure your pc is vista ready ??

Probably not. That means you might have to spend a couple of hundred dollars to make it vista ready. Or you have to biy a new pc.

  3. You'll continue to receive security updates. There won't be any other type of updates soon anyway. There are cracks to bypass WGA checks, but I'm not sure of the legalities of these, so I'm not going to link to any. Although you can't install them after the fact, hotfixes and service packs can be integrated into a Windows installation disc in a process called "slipstreaming." You can slipsteam using nLite.
