Is there a way to have weather alerts sent via text message?

I'm worried about tornadoes that just passed through kentucky just recently. So I'm wondering if I can get alerts via text, my radio wasn't working correctly that evening, and so i was wondering if there was some kind of service to send texts? Silly it may sound, but I was just curious. thanks.

Watch the Weather Network or whatever it is called stateside and see if they give the way.  You may need to check on their website.  I know it can be done in Canada.

Strange as it sounds - have you checked to see if your local news has a website? Ours does out of Pittsburgh and they offer weather alerts via email or text.
