Question:

Is there a way to increase the power consumption on an N1 Wireless Notebook adapter?

I am having a problem with the range I am getting from my N1 adapter. I have a Belkin N1 Vision router. My internal G adapter is connecting faster than the N1. I was told that it may be that my power consumption settings could be set to power saving mode thus a low range of signal. I thought that N1 was faster and had more range. Why am I getting a better signal on my G than N1? Also could my op sys need an upgrade? My op sys is xp vers 2002 sp 2. It is about 5 years old. Is is compatable with an N1 card? Any help would be appreciated.

  1. It's probably because the antenna built-in to your laptop is better positioned than the antenna attached to the PC-Card or Express-Card (built-in laptop antennas almost always are better).

I doubt the power saving mode has anything to do with it (and there's a limit on the amount of power you're allowed to transmit anyway, you could use higher gain antennas but they also have higher directivity).
