Is there a way to keep my window unit from drawing so much power?

When the unit switches to cooling mode it makes things in my room flicker, I guess from drawing a lot of power. the unit is the correct size for my room. The major problem is that it causes equipment on my aquarium to reset!

The unit may be the correct size for the room, but the circuit breaker in the panel may not be the right size for the job.

yes, turn it off, open the window, be hot, or run it and be cool, your choice....good luck.

Your service panel is probably only a 60 amp service or maybe a 100 amp service..and too many things going on electrically to power them all sufficiently..with all the new appliances now days the old service centers ahve a h**l of a job keeping up with them all..I had to upgrade to a whole new 200 amp service center on mine(pole,box,wiring ,breakers etc.)
