Question:

Is there a way to make a cat appear de-clawed without actually having them de-clawed?

Hi, I am moving into an apartment where the landlord will allow cats but only fully declawed. I know that declawing a cat is equivalent to chopping of my fingers to the first knuckle and I don't really want to do that to him. Is there anything that can be done to make a cat appear to be declawed that isn't so mean?

  1. I suggest finding a different apartment.

Do NOT declaw your cat!  It isn't mean, it's mutilation and it will warp your cat.  If you like your cat, do NOT do this to your cat.

I can't think of anything that will make the cat look declawed on inspection, and your landlord will likely inspect.

  2. No, but you can see if your landlord will allow you to use a product called "Soft Paws" instead- they are rubber caps that glue onto your cat's nails and prevent them from causing any sort of damage.  http://www.softpaws.com/

  3. I dont like this either but its a better alternative than de-clawing.

Will the landlord agree to this?  Did you get the cat from a shelter (oops my daughter deleted that and I just caught it.) that forbids de-clawing? if so can you get a paper from them that states that or something... I guess if its a apartment you have to go with those rules but if it were me I would look for a different place to live rather than mutilate my cat. The funny thing is cats don't do that much damage to things with scratching its the litterbox problems I would think they would be more worried about.

  4. you can try to trim the cats nails http://www.pedipaws.com/?directLoad&uid=...

  5. maybe you should tell your landlord what it does to a cat when you declaw them.  i'm not so sure why he/she is so worried about it.  most cats that have nails scratch at furniture. . . which is usually yours.  tell him/her when you declaw a cat they don't use the liter box when they should because the liter hurts their paws after being declawed.  if they don't change their minds just find a new place.

  6. Use soft paws, they are caps that go on your cats claws so the can't tear up stuff when out having to de-claw
