I have 4 cats (all neutered/spayed). 12YO male, 8YO male, and two 3YO females. I have had one of the females for four months. We have dealt with introducing new cats into the pack before, but this time, our 8YO male is not adapting to our new 3YO. Every time she is within 3 feet of him he hisses and growls, sometimes even getting into fights. The other two have pretty much accepted her with only a few dominance growls here and there. The 8YO is also starting to go after the other two, I think in misplaced aggression. Any ideas as to why he's behaving like this?

  1. this link on introducing cats might offer you some ideas..

maybe get him health checked too.. if he is in pain he will be more moody..also if he is declawed - that can make them more protective too.

  2. make sure you have plenty of litter boxes because cats get real upset when they have to share boxes

  3. I was watching a show on Animal Planet about this problem.   They did this interesting technique called scent mixing.  They rubbed a damp cloth on each cat's head and cheeks, using the same cloth for both of them.  That way, they thought of each other as more of a family.  I'm not sure how it would work for more than two cats, though. Try looking that up on google.

  4. have them hold their front paws together this will force them to stand.-blurey
