  1. get a new one (wried is best)

  2. try to delete temporary internet files and cookies. re-start before going to the internet again.

  3. Well there is software that can make it seem faster, although it really is not. AOL should offer 5x, or something like that which makes your internet seem a lot faster. In a way it is, it seems 5 up to 7x's faster. All it really does though is compress the data, and cut out useless junk, and that way web pages load faster. I am assuming that your computer is set up for that already though. (I don't know if it works on windows 98, but I assume it does). Otherwise the only other thing you can do is upgrade your modem, if you have a really old one. Some of the older ones can not get the full 56kbps connection, although your new modem would have too support windows 98.

If I were you, I would just get the cheapest highspeed provider I could find, that way you would have faster internet, and not too much higher price.

  4. The only way to make your internet faster is to get a faster internet connection.

  5. You need to figure out whether you are getting the bandwidth you are paying for or not. You can use any of the various "speed test" sites to tell. I've linked to one of them below.

    There are then three possibilities:

    1) You are getting the speed you are paying for, that speed is decent, but your Internet access still seems slow. In this case, you should check your computer for spyware or malware, possibly try a different browser, or consider a hardware upgrade.

    2) You are getting the speed you are paying for, but that speed is low. In that case, you should consider upgrading or changing your Internet access. If nothing faster is affordable in your area, you may be out of luck. Consider satellite, cable, DSL, and so on.

    3) You are not getting the speed you are paying for, you are getting a low speed but paying for a reasonable speed. In that case, there may be physical problem. If DSL, do you have proper filters in place? If dialup, is your line clean and not noisy? You may need to talk to your ISP to help track down the problem.

Give us more information. What speeds do you measure on speed test sites? What access plan are you paying for? How much memory does your computer have? And what download speeds do you get that you think are slow?

  6. Your PC is probably infected with adware & spyware if:

         * You have downloaded music online

         * Your PC is running extremely slow

         * You are pestered by those horrible popup ads

         * Your homepage keeps changing

Don't let people invade your privacy and slow down your PC!

If so, then take a few moments to download anti-spyware software to get rid of spywares and get rid of adwares if your computer is infected.

  7. Mine is much faster after downloading  these from download.com

#1 Uniblue Speed Up My PC 3 (for $30 its worth it!)

#2 Temp File Cleaner 3.1 (free)

    #3 Internet Cell Boost (free)

I noticed a tremendous difference after Uniblue's program, and even better performance after Temp File cleaner but you have to be careful with Temp File cleaner if there are other people (than you) using your computer because it erases Temp files from all profiles not just yours. I'm still evaluating Internet Cell Boost, I didn't see a huge difference, only slight in the speed on internet.

    Hope this helps!

  10. Yeah, AOL really is slow, isn't it?

Hate to tell you this, but no. Your internet connection is slow due to the physical limitations of the link - you cannot fix this with software.  There are programs that may advertise a speed "boost" or "optimization", and these may be legitimate, but they will not actually improve your connection; they will only allow you to utilize it more effectively.

  11. Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.
