  1. SOL means S**t outta luck

    Simple answer:

Look at the front of your ps3, if it has 2 usb ports it will not play ps2 games and nothing you do can make it play ps2 games.

However, if it has 4 usb ports it should work already, you just need to get a guitar that is compatible with the ps3.

    Alternate answer

If you have a 40GB ps3 there was some hardware removed to make not compatible with ps2 games, and nothing you do will allow it to play ps2 games.

If you have a 60GB, 20GB, or 80GB ps3 it should play ps2 games, however, if its an 80GB or PAL(European) 60GB it will only play most ps2 games, this is again do to the removal of certain hardware to reduce costs, but not every thing allowing it to play ps2 games was removed.

  2. If it is a 60 GB PS3 it will more than likely already work. If it is an 80GB PS3 it should work if you have the firmware update which is easy and you more than likely do because any PS3 game will tell you to update when you turn it on if you need an update.

But if you have a 40GB PS3 it is not backwards compatible at all so you will be SOL.

SOL mean S*** out of luck.

In other words it won't work and it never will.

  3. you can play ps2 games on the ps3.. I play fifa on it all the time from the ps2 version. only certain games work and i think they made a list of games that do and don't work but they dont know excatly because there have been soo many ps2 games. and guitar hero game wount work because its different  and the ps3 has its own guitar just like the wii and 360
