Is there a way to make sure someone does not use my computer while I am out of town besides just a password?

I have had this feeling that someone is using my computer while I have been out of town. Is there a way to make completely sure no one uses it?

I cannot take it with me and passwords don't seem to be working so well if they can still get into it.

  1. The best way would be to remove the HDD and lock it up in a safe or something and leave everything unplugged from your computer.

  2. The easiest thing would be to take the hard drive with you or leave it at a friends house, even if you have a strong password it is still very possible to hack the computer/change your password! Also, most fingerprint scanners aren't state of the art, alot of them can be tricked by simply using sticky tape. Or, if your not that advanced try hiding the computer but leaving the cords, try leaving it in your car, in your boot.

  3. I'd recommend removing the hard drive and taking it with you.  Most new computers are easy enough to open and don't even require a screwdriver.

However, if you're in a corporate environment, they may not want you to leave with there hard drive.

  4. Along with creating a very difficult password, I've seen tools like thumbrint scanners and locks for your computer.

If it's a laptop, then you could physically lock the case, but I don''t believe it's an option for a desktop.

Newer laptops come with a built in thumbscanner, I'd look at

www.bestbuy.com www.frys.com or www.circuitcity.com to see if buying one is an option for older laptops/desktops.

    Hope that this helps :]

  5. rip out the power supply. or the hard drive that works too and take it with you

  6. make a pswd like: hjUS46HI2B7Umm

one that makes no sence and is not a word. use capital and lower case aswell as numbers. write it down and take the paper with you.
